Kids like Jed urgently need your help today

Fifteen-year-old Jed was helping muster sheep on a remote station when he crashed his motorbike. As he tried to stand up, he felt shooting pain in his wrist and leg. 

He was in agony and hours away from any help.

By the time Jed arrived at the hospital, his leg was badly swollen. X-rays revealed that his ankle was shattered - requiring urgent surgery that was only available at a major hospital in Dubbo, a nine hour drive away.

The Flying Doctor emergency retrieval team was able to mobilise and get to Jed quickly, getting him the critical care he needed.

Tammy shared her immense relief when she knew the Flying Doctor were on their way to help.

"It would have been daunting and agonising for Jed to travel nine hours by car in so much pain."

Soon after arriving in Dubbo, Jed was rushed into emergency surgery to place pins and plates in his ankle. After surgery, the Flying Doctor team were there to fly Jed home safely. 

"I was so grateful to see them. I was dreading the trip home by car. I am six foot two and I wouldn't have fit in the car with my leg up. They're real life savers," Jed said. 

As most Australians focus on staying safe, many outback families are feeling more isolated than ever, fearing they may be forgotten, with their lives at risk during this pandemic.
